Research Ethics
Human and Animal Research Policy
Java Nursing Journal (JNJ) retains the right to reject any manuscript on the basis of unethical conduct in either human or animal studies.
For research involving human participants, the article must include a statement that ethical approval was obtained, or a statement explaining why ethical approval was not required. The statement should include the name of the ethics committee or institutional review board, the approval number or identification code, and confirmation that participants provided informed consent before taking part in the study, or an explanation of why informed consent was not required. Authors should also state that the study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki .
In line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the Declaration of Helsinki, clinical trials should be prospectively registered before participants are enrolled. Clinical trial registration numbers should be included in all manuscripts reporting clinical trials.
Where illustrations include recognizable individuals, living or deceased, great care must be taken to ensure that consent for publication has been obtained. Patient anonymity must be preserved. Photographs should be appropriately cropped or otherwise anonymized so that individual participants cannot be identified. Where facial features remain visible, appropriate masking or pixelation should be applied to prevent identification of the individual.
For experiments involving animals, authors must provide information regarding the nature of the ethical review and approval, including relevant licences or institutional approvals where applicable. Authors must also identify the national, institutional, or internationally recognized guidelines for the care and use of animals under which the research was conducted. All animal research should be performed in accordance with appropriate ethical, legal, and institutional standards governing animal welfare.
Where necessary, the Java Nursing Journal (JNJ) Editorial Office reserves the right to request additional documentation or information regarding the ethical conduct, approval, consent procedures, registration, or animal welfare provisions associated with research reported in a submitted manuscript.
